I really enjoy doing pro bono work. For me it is the best kind of volunteer work because it is what I do best every day and enjoy while helping others. Having handled pro bono cases for over 20 years, I have found that the more you volunteer the more energizing it can feel. Handling pro bono work does seem to give me a sense of balance while making me a more well- rounded lawyer. I have always found selfishly that my pro bono clients are my most satisfied and grateful clients. Who really does not want to be appreciated even more? The other consideration is need. With budgets already cut and an incoming Administration that potentially may not see the value of legal services giving back by handling clients who cannot pay now is critical in my view.
